First Bus launches Marie Curie’s biggest annual fundraising campaign the Great Daffodil Appeal in Bradford

Aberdeen, Scotland, 2017-Feb-23 — /Travel PR News/ — First Bus driver Ron Hiley, 69, from Clayton, drove a specially named Marie Curie bus up to the Bradford Hospice today (Feb. 22,2017) to launch the charity’s annual Great Daffodil Appeal. The Great Daffodil Appeal is Marie Curie’s biggest annual fundraising campaign, which takes place throughout March.

In September last year, the First Bradford team named a bus after Ron Hiley for his commitment and support of Marie Curie as he has raised over £44,000 for the Bradford Hospice since 2006 when he signed up to his first cycling challenge with the charity. At the same time, First Bradford was keen to continue to support their driver with his fundraising efforts for Marie Curie and decided to name a local Bradford bus “Marie Curie” too.

Ron Hiley said: “I’ve been fundraising for Marie Curie in Bradford since 2006 and I’m proud to support this local charity in any way I can. I’ve worked for First Bus in Bradford for over 30 years and the business has supported my mission to help raise funds and have named this local bus after Marie Curie, in recognition of my efforts to support the charity. It was great to bring the bus to the hospice to launch the Great Daffodil Appeal to encourage people to volunteer for Marie Curie.”

Sharon Link, Community Fundraiser, said “We are calling on the people of Bradford and the surrounding areas to help us make every daffodil count this year. All you have to do is volunteer two hours of your time to encourage people to give a donation and wear a daffodil pin, it’s that simple. So please consider signing up to one of our supermarket or street collections and together we can help Marie Curie Nurses provide vital hands on care and emotional support to people living with a terminal illness, and their loved ones.”
