FedEx to Donate Boeing 727-200F Aircraft to Kansas City Aviation Department

2012-08-08 — /travelprnews.com/ — A Boeing 727-200F aircraft from FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), made its final taxi today after landing at Kansas City International Airport. Community and airport leaders gathered to celebrate this generous donation to the Kansas City Aviation Department for emergency response training. A tour of the aircraft followed its arrival.

Instead of providing express cargo flights the aircraft will now provide a real-world training platform for the Kansas City Fire Department Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting team, KCI Airport Police and Airport Operations. The 727 will eventually be staged on the aircraft parking apron at the KCI Overhaul Base.

“As we retire this 727 from our fleet, we are proud to give back to the aviation community,” said David Sutton, managing director of Aircraft Acquisition and Sales for FedEx. “The donation of this aircraft by FedEx is just one example of the many ways we support educational endeavors, reflecting the community spirit shared by all FedEx employees in the communities where we live and work.”

“We are thankful to FedEx Express for its generous donation of a 727 freighter to support safety and aviation education programs in Kansas City,” said Director of Aviation Mark VanLoh. “The aircraft has great hands-on training value to aid in our ongoing emergency preparedness efforts.”

Since 2000, FedEx has donated 53 of its Boeing 727 aircraft to various organizations for educational purposes. Before its final flight, aircraft 727-200 REGISTRATION NUMBER N483FE provided FedEx with 20 years’ service transporting packages to destinations throughout the United States.
