Enterprise Holdings inducted into the Military Spouse Employment Partnership

ST. LOUIS, 2016-Oct-25 — /Travel PR News/ — Enterprise Holdings, the largest car rental company in the world as measured by revenue, fleet and employees, was inducted this week into the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP). The Department of Defense (DoD) program addresses unemployment of military spouses by connecting them with more than 335 partner employers committed to recruiting, hiring, promoting and retaining military spouses.

While military spouses are well educated and highly qualified for a range of careers, they face unemployment rates of approximately 18 percent compared to the 5 percent national average, according to 2016 data from Blue Star Families (BSF). In addition, they are six times more likely to earn salaries below their education and experience level.

Since the program’s inception in 2011, more than 5 million jobs have been posted on the MSEP Career Portal, and the more-than-300 partner employers have hired more than 100,000 military spouses into a variety of industries.

Through the partnership, Enterprise will receive monthly program updates and guidance for promoting portable careers and employment opportunities through the MSEP Career Portal. Enterprise Holdings, which owns the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands, will use the portal to advertise its hiring initiatives and report on military spouse hiring successes and networking opportunities.

Military Heritage and Support

Enterprise Holdings’ commitment to the military goes back nearly six decades. The company is named after the USS Enterprise, one of the aircraft carriers on which company founder Jack Taylor served as a U.S. Navy pilot during World War II. It is widely recognized as the most decorated warship in U.S. military history.

Today, military veterans and members of the guard and reserve comprise nearly 13 percent of the company’s total U.S. workforce. In fact, Enterprise Holdings is one of more than 230 companies associated with the Veteran Jobs Mission, which brings together companies committed to hiring U.S. military veterans and military spouses. Since joining the coalition in 2012, Enterprise has added nearly 8,000 military veterans to its staff.

Enterprise Holdings has been widely recognized for its ongoing support of veterans and reservists, including designations as a Military Friendly Employer from the publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine for the past four years, Top Veteran-Friendly Company by U.S. Veterans Magazine, “Best for Vets: Employers” by the Military Times publishing organization and Most Valuable Employer for Military by CivilianJobs.com.

In addition, Enterprise Holdings employs more than 1,100 military spouses. And just this year, Enterprise Holdings was recognized as the No. 7 Military Friendly Spouse Employer from the publishers of G.I. Jobsmagazine.

In 2005, Enterprise received Five-Star recognition in the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Statement of Support Program, and was recognized with the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award – the highest honor given by the U.S. government to employers that support their employees’ service in the National Guard and Reserve.

In 2012, Enterprise was honored for the second time as a Freedom Award Nominee by the ESGR, and was one of only two Missouri companies to receive the first Extraordinary Employer Support Award from the ESGR for sustained support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. In fact, Enterprise pays the salary differential for employees on active duty, so they continue to receive full pay during their service.

Last year, the Enterprise Holdings Foundation – the company’s philanthropic arm – committed $3 million to the Fisher House Foundation. Fisher House is a nonprofit organization that operates more than 60 locations across the country to provide free lodging and airfare for family members of wounded service members while they receive medical care.

“Supporting veterans, members of the guard and reserve, and members of the military and their families is part of our DNA,” said Pam Webster, assistant vice president of talent acquisition at Enterprise Holdings. “Our commitment to hire military spouses is another way for Enterprise Holdings to demonstrate its commitment to military families and builds upon our company’s rich history of military support.”
