easyJet’s Fearless Flyer course at Gatwick airport taught over 100 nervous flyers unique set of ‘mind tools’ to manage their fear

More than 100 people are today celebrating overcoming their phobia of flying after attending easyJet’s Fearless Flyer course at Gatwick airport over the weekend.

LONDON, 2014-9-23 — /Travel PR News/ — The group of 110 nervous flyers took part in the two-day course, run by phobia expert Lawrence Leyton and senior easyJet pilot Peter West, who together explained how an aircraft works, dispelled common flying myths and taught participants a unique set of ‘mind tools’ to manage their fear.

On Sunday participants put the skills they’d learnt to the test and travelled onboard a special easyJet flight, which included a full commentary in the air from Captain Peter West.

The weekend’s Gatwick course now brings the total number of successful Fearless Flyer participants nationwide to more than 1,500 since launching almost two years ago.

Matthew Gayne who took part in the course said:

“That was an incredible experience. I haven’t flown for over 3 years and it’s been having a massive impact on my life. But the Fearless Flyer course really helped me to understand how the plane works and how I could control my nerves.

“I did feel apprehensive before we took off on our Experience Flight, but I now realise these were just my old negative mind patterns because I felt totally relaxed and very happy in the air. Many thanks to the easyJet Fearless Flyer Team. They’ve helped me achieve something I thought was impossible only a few days ago!”

Neil Slaven, easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager, said:

“Our Fearless Flyer courses have been a flyaway success with more than 95% of our participants overcoming their fear of flying.

“We’re really pleased that we’ve helped to change the lives of so many people already, and we look forward to welcoming our new fearless flyers onboard our flights soon from Gatwick Airport, where we fly over 15m passengers in and out every year.”

Mark Wein, Director of FOF Events which organise the Fearless Flyer courses, commented:

“Our 2014 Autumn series has got off to a fantastic start this weekend at Gatwick with a sell-out course. There were over 100 nervous faces who turned up at our ground-course on Saturday but they were all smiling by Sunday, some with tears of joy, after they took to the skies fearlessly on their experience flight. Congratulations to them all and with six more courses running this year the team is looking forward to helping many more people overcome their fear of flying.”

easyJet’s Fearless Flyer course is one of the best priced aerophobia courses in the UK at just £189 per person. Participants can also invite a friend or family member with them on the flight if they wish for just £69.

There are still a number of places available on easyJet’s Fearless Flyer courses nationwide, including London Luton on 18-19 October and Stansted on 21-22 November. For more information and to book a place on the course, please visit www.fearlessflyer.easyjet.com
