Eastern & Oriental Express train Offers Special Journey To Laos to celebrate its 20th anniversary

2013-06-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — To celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2013, the Eastern & Oriental Express train (E&O) has created a special four-night ‘rail and relaxation’ experience with La Residence Phou Vao hotel in Luang Prabang, discovering the very best of Laos and beguiling South-East Asia.

Since its launch in 1993, the E&O has taken travellers on enriching and unique rail experiences, incorporating the very best of the region. Measuring a quarter of a mile in length, the air-conditioned emerald green carriages of the E&O evoke the great age of luxury train travel and offer a world of opulence and fine dining.

Departing Bangkok, the carriages leave the hustle and bustle behind as afternoon tea is served in cosy cabins and travellers embark on this insightful voyage. The train heads in a north-easterly direction and the city fades into the background as the train wends itself through the countryside along a single railway track.

Highlights on the two-night rail adventure include a visit to the Khao Yai Hills to taste the ‘new latitude’ Thai wines, a chance to view the UNESCO site of Phimai in Thailand and the crossing of the Friendship Bridge over the Mekong River to Vientiane, followed by a full day exploring the Laotian capital and its many colonial attractions.

The journey continues as guests are transferred to La Residence Phou Vao for a two-night stay. Owned and operated by Orient-Express, the hotel is situated in Luang Prabang, the country’s ex-royal capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Whilst there, guests can explore the local sites by bicycle or enjoy relaxing and rejuvenating spa treatments in the Mekong Spa.

The four night/five day ‘Journey to Royal Laos’ package departs Bangkok on 2nd October 2013 and includes a two-night journey on the E&O from Bangkok to Vientiane followed by a two-night stay at La Residence Phou Vao. Based on two sharing a Pullman cabin including all table d’hôte meals, B&B in a Junior Suite with Garden View is included at the hotel. Return flight from Luang Prabang to Bangkok is also included. Prices start from £2,500 per person. For reservations visit www.easternandorientalexpress.com or tel: 0845 077 2222.
