Doncaster Sheffield Airport Announces UK’s Newest Transit Shed Operator

2012-07-27 — /travelprnews.com/ — A Doncaster based company has the world at its finger tips thanks to a deal with the region’s airport.

Anglo World Cargo, a sub division of Anglo European Express (Doncaster) Ltd, have been appointed as the Cargo Terminal Operator for Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) and become the UK’s newest Transit Shed operator.

Based on-site in Hangar One, Anglo World Cargo will work alongside the Airport’s management team and existing service providers Weston Aviation and Servisair to enable the movement of freight to and from the Yorkshire, Humber and Midlands regions.

The airport’s Cargo Terminal consists of 50.000 sq. ft. of operational space and is equipped with the latest cargo handling equipment. This, coupled with the airport’s 2893m runway, means that Anglo World Cargo have the ability to handle all aspects of airfreight from the smallest parcel to bespoke charters of the largest cargo aircraft, up to and including Antonov-225’s.

Gary Winterman, Managing Director of Anglo World Cargo, said “We are at the beginning of a new and exciting stage in the on-going development of DSA and after months of hard work and the support of DSA, existing service providers and the regional agencies we’ve created a fully functioning Cargo facility.

“Our facility and the service we provide, has already been welcomed positively in the marketplace as a viable contender to other major freight airports within the UK. In many cases, our ability to be flexible by offering quick turnarounds, no slot restrictions and integrated road transportation makes DSA the more efficient option.”

The recent approval of the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS), a direct link road to the motorway network means that soon the airport will be even more accessible.

“Doncaster is already established as the North’s leading location for logistics and distribution. Looking to the future, the FARRRS project will add further weight to the proposition and will create a fantastic multimodal facility with road, rail, air and sea coming together.

It’s an exciting time as, working closely with DSA and airport owners Vantage Airport Group, we look to develop DSA’s position in the ad-hoc charter market and start to establish scheduled air freight services into Yorkshire,” added Gary.

In the last month, the new operation has already seen over 140 tonnes of cargo move through DSA, including two Antonov-124’s.

Steve Gill, DSA’s Airport Director said: “This is great news for Doncaster Sheffield Airport, as we’ve always seen Air Freight as a major part of the airports strategy.

“We’ve made significant steps forward in recent months, and with this announcement we look forward to re-launching our cargo product in partnership with Anglo World Cargo to drive the cargo business forward. We see them as the ideal partner and we’re delighted with their proactive and dedicated approach which has already generated some fantastic feedback from the operators of our recent charter flights.

“Whilst the economy continues to be challenging nationally, we believe we can offer the marketplace a cost effective and flexible solution to moving airfreight in and out of the UK. In addition, we look forward to working with the Sheffield City Region’s successful manufacturing and logistics sector to help local businesses export effectively.”
