DFW Airport awarded $23 million in FAA grants for runway rehabilitation projects

Grants totaling $23 million fund infrastructure renewal

DALLAS, 2015-8-5 — /Travel PR News/ — DFW Airport today announced it has been awarded $23 million in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants for runway rehabilitation projects. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (Texas-30th District) and representatives from the FAA were on hand to officially present the grant to Airport leaders.

“We are pleased to receive these funds from our partners at the FAA in order to maintain the airfield infrastructure in prime condition here at DFW Airport,” said Sean Donohue, CEO of DFW Airport. “We are also thankful to Congresswoman Johnson and other members of Congress for their great support of DFW Airport.”

The two grants will help fund three ongoing airfield rehabilitation projects. FAA Grant Number 111 will deliver $14,000,000 for the third phase of the ongoing project to rehabilitate Taxiway L. FAA Grant Number 112 will deliver $9,003,360 to rehabilitation projects for Runway 17R/35L and for runway lighting on Runway 18L/36R. Each grant covers 75% of the cost of those projects.

The Taxiway L project is scheduled for completion in early 2018, while the runway rehab and lighting projects should be complete by late next year.

The grants are part of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, which provides grants for the planning and development of public use airports. Eligible projects include those improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns.
