Charleston International Airport: temporary lane closures due to construction beginning Monday, January 25

North Charleston, S.C., 2016-Jan-25 — /Travel PR News/ — Construction in front of the Charleston International Airport will result in temporary lane closures affecting those dropping off and picking up passengers beginning Monday, January 25.

The center median that separates pickup and drop off traffic from taxi and shuttle traffic will be demolished and repaved. The construction also includes the installation of improved outdoor lighting and underground cables to support new taxi and valet booths.

Work will begin in front of the ticketing drop off entrances and occur in three phases. Barricades will block two lanes of traffic on either side of the center median. The other lanes will remain open to traffic.

The 10-week project will occur in phases.

The first phase will occur Jan. 25 through Feb. 5 and will extend from the ticketing end of the terminal to the first pedestrian crosswalk. The second phase runs Feb. 12 through March 11 will encompass an area between the ticketing and baggage claim covered crosswalks. The last phase extends from baggage claim to the Rental Car Pavilion between March 14 and 31.

For pedestrian safety, motorists are asked to observe the 25 mph speed limit leading up to the terminal and to slow down, obeying all stop signs in front of the drop off and pick up areas. Signs will direct pedestrians to safe paths to and from the terminal.
