British Airways celebrates launch of its new route from Gatwick to Peru with special menu by Peruvian chef Martin Morales

LONDON, 2016-Apr-29 — /Travel PR News/ — British Airways is popping open the pisco ahead of the launch of its new route from Gatwick to Peru which takes off on May 4.

The three-times a week service puts the South American country firmly back on the route map and offers holiday-makers and business travellers the only direct flights between London and Lima.

To celebrate the airline has teamed up with award-winning Peruvian chef, restaurateur and author Martin Morales to create a special menu which will be served to all customers on flights between the two cities from May 4 until June 4.

Martin Morales, executive chef at Ceviche Soho, Ceviche Old St and Andina restaurants in London, said: “Peruvian food is one of the most exciting and cutting edge cuisines in the world as a result of its wide variety of flavours, influences and ingredients so it’s fantastic that British Airways customers will now be able to enjoy this incredibly diverse cuisine whilst in the air.

“It has been a fascinating challenge to take restaurant cooking into a format that works at 35,000 feet but also a real privilege to work on the launch of a new service that connects two cities with such fantastic food scenes.”

Martin has created courses which blend authentic South American flavours alongside traditional cooking techniques

Dishes to be served on board include ‘causa de camaron’; mashed yellow potatoes, layered fresh prawns and Amarillo chill and ‘bistec escabechado’; grilled soy and cumin marinated beef fillet with pickled tomato and onion salsa and sweet corn puree.

Club World customers will also be offered a traditional pisco sour cocktail which blends pisco brandy with lemon juice and egg whites.

Lynne Embleton, British Airways’ managing director at Gatwick said: “With the world-famous Inca Trail and the incredible citadel of Machu Picchu, there’s nowhere quite like Peru. Its rich cultural heritage make it one of the most popular places in South America to visit and explore.

“It is great to be the only airline to offer direct services between London and Peru. Lima is a fantastic gateway to some of the most dramatic places to visit in South America and will also provide a new link for British business seeking to invest in Peru’s growing market.”

Year-round prices start from £765 for those flying in World Traveller, £1,185 in World Traveller Plus and £2,549 for those relaxing in fully-flat Club World seats, and all fares include taxes and charges.

British Airways flights include a generous free checked baggage allowance, free online check-in, seat allocation and complimentary food, drink and inflight entertainment on board.
