Bath gathers country’s top chefs for a month long food festival, The Great Bath Feast

Harvesting the nation’s top chefs for a Great Bath Feast

2013-06-12 — /travelprnews.com/ — The table is being set to welcome some of the country’s top chefs to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath this autumn, as it prepares for its month long food festival, The Great Bath Feast.

Throughout October there will be a varied programme with a celebrity line up that reads like a who’s who of gastronomy including Bath born and bred Mary Berry launching her new autobiography, Angela Hartnett, Nathan Outlaw, Jenny Chandler, Michael Caines, Sally Butcher, Pru Leith and Rachel Khoo.

More feastival than festival the culinary calendar will get locals and visitors eating and drinking and enjoying all that the city has to offer with taste trails and chef demonstrations; street food parties and supper clubs; wine tastings and tutorials; brewery visits and baking tips; a gathering of the nation’s top cheese makers; high profile guest chefs and celebrity book signings. It’s a great opportunity to indulge and enjoy food and drink in a city which has been offering hospitality for hundreds of years.

Organised by Bath Tourism Plus and the Bath BID Company to celebrate the region’s local produce, the programme for the festival continues to grow with many names to be added to the increasing list of events – updated details of which can be found on www.greatbathfeast.co.uk

The festival launches on Wednesday 2nd October with a banquet by Michelin starred chefs cooking ‘The Great Bath Feast’ in the spectacular setting of Bath Abbey in aid of charity. Guests will be greeted with a glass of Champagne Jacquart followed by a three course menu prepared by Hywel Jones (Executive Chef, Lucknam Park), Sam Moody (Executive Chef, The Bath Priory Hotel and Restaurant) and Chris Staines (Head Chef, The Allium Brasserie at the Abbey Hotel).

At Bath independent book store Toppings and Company, they will be bringing the nation’s favourite baker Mary Berry back to the city where she grew up to present her autobiography. Their Autumn Book Festival features Sally Butcher talking about Snackistan with her trade mark wit and unique take on Middle Eastern Cuisine; Rachel Khoo, the food writer with Parisian style on the Little French Kitchen and Michelin starred Executive Chef of Gidleigh Park, Michael Caines who launches his first book  ‘At Home’ with a special event at the Bath Priory Hotel.

The star studded line up continues at the Bertinet Kitchen with Angela Hartnett, author of Murano, ‘The Bath Larder’ with Jenny Chandler, author of Pulse; Matt Follas, 2009 Masterchef Winner and chef/proprietor of Wild Garlic in Dorset; Nathan Outlaw another West Country culinary prodigy; William Curley the chocolate expert and Charlie Digney, who owns two of Bath’s fine gastro pubs Garricks Head and The King William will be taking a Masterclass on butchery.

The Bath Priory Hotel and Restaurant’s Michelin starred chef Sam Moody stated: “It’s really exciting. This is such a great opportunity to celebrate all that is great within Bath’s wonderful food industry.  We are really lucky to have such a diverse set of restaurants and so many great chefs working here.  I’m honoured to be cooking with Chris and Hywel at the Abbey to mark the start of the feast! October’s going to be a busy month… I can’t wait.”

During the festival visitors can indulge in the ‘Bath Dine’s Out Again’ promotion from the city’s restaurants and partake in the ‘Bath Taste Trail,’ which will flag up interesting foodie shops and delis to visit and sample. Not to be left out, many of Bath’s hotels and independent guest houses who already source locally to create the freshest and tastiest ‘full English,’ will participate in the Great Bath Breakfast; making it the ideal start to a day visiting the sites of the World Heritage city or indulging in some spa or retail therapy.
