airberlin takes home three awards in US travel magazines Global Traveler and Premier Traveler readers’ survey

Germany’s second-largest airline takes home several awards at the end of the year

BERLIN, 2015-12-29 — /Travel PR News/ — “And the winner is airberlin”: The company pocketed three awards just this month in the United States. In a survey conducted among readers of the US travel magazines Global Traveler and Premier Traveler, airberlin took two top slots as “Best Trans-Atlantic Airline” and “Best European Airline”, climbing one place respectively compared with last year’s results. Readers of Premier Traveler awarded the frequent flyer programme the accolade as “Best International Frequent Flyer Programme”, the second year running it has received this distinction.

Stefan Pichler, Chief Executive Officer at airberlin: “airberlin cares deeply about passengers’ satisfaction. The recent awards confirm our daily quest to offer our flight guests an extraordinary service experience.”

Golden Mercury Award for the exclusive Mampe Aviator Cocktail
airberlin received the Golden Award for its “Aviator Cocktail” – composed by Berlin’s oldest liqueur distillery Mampe and available exclusively on board airberlin flights – at the world’s most prestigious innovation prize within the in-flight catering industry, the Mercury Awards in Abu Dhabi, held this year for the 34th time. Presented annually by the Sial Group, the Mercury Award went to airberlin in the “Beverages” category. The Berliners had already romped home from last year’s ceremony with the Golden Award in honour of their diverse range of Sansibar gourmet meals in the “On Board Service” category.

Handelsblatt picks airberlin as “Best in Class: Value for Money” in the mobility category
At this year’s ITB Berlin, The World’s Leading Travel Trade Show®, airberlin was named “Best in Class: Value for Money” in the mobility category by Handelsblatt in cooperation with the market research institute YouGov. The results were based on a representative survey conducted using the BrandIndex, the YouGov brand tracker. This survey invited consumers to share their opinions on aspects including the value for money provided by 31 brands in the airline, car rental as well as local and long distance rail services.

Top slot in the atmosfair ranking 2015: substantially lower carbon footprint compared with equivalent airlines
The climate protection organisation atmosfair has published its most recent Airline Index 2015. The index assesses the CO2 efficiency among 198 of the largest airlines worldwide by comparing their emissions of greenhouse gases. In the category of large airline companies carrying far in excess of one million passengers per year, Germany’s second largest airline takes top slot in a global comparison, recording truly convincing emission values in terms of CO2 efficiency.

Stefan Pichler: “The eco-efficiency here at airberlin is outstanding, and the company continues to work consistently on introducing methods to improve the sustainability of air transport. This claim is an integrative element of our corporate philosophy aimed at achieving constant and continuous improvement, and not just a hollow marketing claim.”
