AEGEAN becomes the official airline partner of documenta 14 exhibition of Western European modern art

Athens, Greece, 2017-Apr-01 — /Travel PR News/ — Staying true to its commitment to support initiatives that promote Greece, AEGEAN has become the official airline partner of the internationally renowned documenta 14 exhibition of Western European modern art. For the first time, documenta 14 will have a twofold structure in which Kassel and Athens will jointly host this important cultural event. Moreover, AEGEAN is the first airline to become the Official Airline Partner   in documenta’s history.

AEGEAN will link the two destinations by including Kassel in its international network, thus making a significant contribution to putting Athens on the map of the international cultural scene. From 29 March to 23 June 2017, there will be two direct AEGEAN flights per week between the Athens International Airport and Kassel, in an effort to join the two cities and to facilitate travel for d14’s visitors and make this experience more accessible to the public.

documenta 14 titled Learning from Athens will be held in Athens from 8 April to 16 July, and in Kassel from 10 June to 17 September, and is expected to attract worldwide interest as it will create an open dialectical relationship between the two cities, thus bringing global cultural and sociological issues to the forefront through art.

AEGEAN continues to implement initiatives that promote Greece as a destination and Athens as a cultural pole of attraction, offering all interested parties the opportunity to visit one of the greatest exhibitions in the world.

As the official airline partner of documenta 14 and through its new flights, AEGEAN is expected to fly approximately 1,500 international media representatives to attend the exhibition opening in Athens, and more than 8,500 visitors to the Greek capital throughout the duration of the exhibition. At the same time, through a series of selected actions, AEGEAN will give the broader public the opportunity to become acquainted with documenta 14 and the events it includes through interactive experiences.

A few words on Documenta

The first documenta was held in Kassel in 1955. This exhibition of Western European modern art was born from the initiative of a group of art lovers headed by artist, art professor and curator Arnold Bode (1900-77). Over the past thirteen editions, documenta has evolved into a ‘place’ where important discussions on contemporary culture are held, highlighting global issues and including, in particular, non-Western epistemological and artistic practices. Every edition constitutes a unique effort that develops around the core that is the main concept, as it is proposed by the acting Artistic Director.

Artistic Director Adam Szymczyk has proposed a twofold structure for documenta 14, the guiding principle of the event being the working title Learning from Athens. In 2017, Kassel and the Greek capital will be jointly hosting the exhibition.
